Review: Terra’s Kitchen

Disclosure: I received a $100 credit from Terra’s Kitchen to do this review.  As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you have been following me for any length of time, you are probably aware that I love food, but I’m not really a big fan of cooking.  That’s not to say that I can’t, it’s just that I don’t enjoy it and with all the traveling that we do, even just going to the grocery store is not a common occurrence.

We don’t have air conditioning and turning on the oven is a no-no during the summer and I need easy recipes that are quick to make.  I’ve seen and tried a few other meal services and I have to say that Terra’s Kitchen fulfills those needs.

So how does it work?  You start by putting in your zip code and email address.  You can either pick the recipes you’d like to cook or their chefs can choose for you.  They prep and pre-portion, pre-chop the ingredients for you.  This is a huge plus, some of the other services give you all the ingredients but you still have to chop veggies, etc. which takes a lot of time.  They deliver everything weekly, I believe there were options for Thursday & Saturday in my zip code.  And then finally you cook the healthy meals in 30 minutes or less using the step by step recipe cards.

I had a hard time picking my meals there were so many to choose from, I finally settled on 4 meals and filled my vessel.  The meals come in this super cool climate controlled vessel that looks like a mini fridge.  You can see more in the video that I made below (sorry I’m still learning how to take the best videos and I didn’t realize that I needed to hold my phone the other way, oops).

The meals I chose were Crispy Salmon & Watermelon Salsa, Tilapia Salad with Arugula & Apples, Bacon, Kale & Caramelized Onion Pasta Salad & TERRAchilada.  All the meals I received had organic grass-fed beef and sustainable fish in them.

So once you get the vessel which was sent via FedEx, you take out all the food, peel off the label and then leave it in the same place you found it for FedEx to pick it up the next business day.  You don’t have to do anything special, the pick-up has already been arranged for you.

Terra's Kitchen, Meal ServiceI got our first delivery on Thursday after we got home from Tahoe and made our first meal that night.  I picked to have meals for 2 people because it’s just Sean & I, but you can pick to have meals for up to 4 people.  All of the meals are pre-portioned & pre-chopped and labeled with a number that corresponds to the recipe card so you know exactly what you need.

Our first meal was the Crispy Salmon with Watermelon Salsa.

Crispy Salmon & Watermelon Salsa Prep for Crispy Salmon & Watermelon Salsa Crispy Salmon & Watermelon Salsa

I actually skipped the next 2 days because we went to Kodiak and needed to carb up and then spent the night out of town, fortunately all the meats had use by dates that went until the following Tuesday so we had some time to use them.

Next up was the Tilapia Salad with Arugula & Apples.  I did another video so here goes :).

This salad was so easy to make, the tilapia was so tender, it literally fell apart as I was cooking it.  The only caveat on this one is that I didn’t realize it at first but I received 2 containers of almonds and no honey for the dressing.  I didn’t have any in the house so I made the dressing without it.  It was still good but probably not as good as it would have been with the honey.

Next up was the Bacon, Kale & Caramelized Onion Pasta.  Again super easy, I made a mistake on this one though, I don’t normally cook with sugar so I left the brown sugar out of the caramelized onions but then Sean was like you should use it so I threw it in after the fact and I felt like the sauce was a bit too sweet for me.  For some reason I didn’t take any prep photos so all we’ve got is my finished product :).

img_9703 img_9679

The last meal I made was the TERRAchildas which is Terra’s Kitchen’s version of the enchilada.  These don’t look the same as the photo and were very tasty but not easy to eat.  I think I didn’t make the tortilla’s exactly right, but it was super yummy.

img_9700 img_9701 img_9699

I have to say these meals were so easy, I would start them when Sean said he was on his way home and they were always done before he arrived.  I felt like they were done before you knew it.  I never once had to turn on the oven and the step by step directions were perfect.

We loved Terra’s Kitchen and I’ve already placed my order for this week, on my own dime.  Sean & I cleaned our plates every single time.  This is a big deal for me because I really don’t like to cook.

REVIEW: JORD Watches Cora Series & Giveaway

I received a Cora Series Watch from JORD Watches in exchange for this post, as always all thoughts and opinions are my own.

My dad has been into wood working since I was a little kid.  I remember when he got his Shopsmith and when my parents planned vacations around finding a Shopsmith store, haha.  I’ve been the go-fer in the shop for as long as I can remember and occasionally I’ve made a few things by myself, with dad’s help of course.

So when I was given the opportunity to test out a wood watch, I was so excited.  I took a look at their website and I knew immediately which watch was my perfect fit.

Unique Watch, Woodwatch, JORD watch, womens watch

They are all beautiful, but I knew that the Cora series was so me.  First off this series had some beautiful colored faces, like turquoise, coral & lavender.  I was drawn immediately to the Zebrawood & turquoise and the small section of the gear showing on the front is super cool.

From the JORD Watches website the Cora watch has awesome features like a Sapphire crystal glass (no scratches!!), Swarovski crystal hour markers, it’s a self-winding automatic watch, which means NO BATTERY!!! How cool is that?  I have a lot of watches but I always stop using them when I have to get the battery replaced because it’s so annoying to get it changed.

Unique Watch, Woodwatch, JORD watch, womens watch

FEATURES:
Sapphire Crystal Glass, Deployment Buckle with push button, Swarovski Crystal Hour Markers, Screw-down crown
MOVEMENT:
Sea-Gull ST6103K, Displays hours, minutes, seconds, 21 jewels, 36 hour power reserve, frequency of 21,600 Beats per Hour, is accurate +/- 3 seconds/day (if worn often), with a self-winding automatic drive system which means no battery
FINISH & CARE:
Hand finished natural Zebrawood & pretreated with tung oils. The Cora is splash-proof but should not be submerged in water.
Avoid extreme hot, cold & excessively dry or humid environments when storing your watch and use Lemon or Orange oil extract to clean the natural wood.

  • Unique Watch, Woodwatch, JORD watch, womens watchJORD watches come in 8 different types of wood from all over the world to give a lot of variety.  You can find watches in Ebony (East Africa/Mozambique), Koa (Hawaii), Purpleheart (Solomon Islands), Zebrawood (West Africa/Congo), Sandalwood (East Africa/Mozambique or Argentina), Maple (Northeast North America) & Bamboo (South Asia). There are a number of different style for both men and women, each style is available in a few different types of wood. You can find more info on the women’s styles here.  And men’s styles here.Unique Watch, Woodwatch, JORD watch, womens watch

A lot of JORD Watches, including mine from the Cora series, are have automatic movements, which means you don’t need to change the battery.  It also means that if you don’t wear your watch often it might be off since it is charges with the movement of your body.

Another awesome feature on a number of JORD watches is the Sapphire crystal glass. Second in hardness only to a diamond, it’s colorless, clear to the eye and one of the most scratch resistant materials.  I’m so happy my watch has a Sapphire crystal because I’m always scratching mine because I like to wear my watch face on my inner wrist.

I did have to take my watch into a local store to have some links removed and all 3 of the people in the store said that this was the nicest wood watch they had ever seen.

It comes in a very nice wood box on a little pillow, with a cleaning cloth to keep it nice and pretty.

Unique Watch, Woodwatch, JORD watch, womens watch

I love my cool new watch and have been wearing it everywhere (outside of on my runs) because it’s super comfortable, looks cool on and is so bright and colorful which totally fits my personality.

AfterShokz Trekz Titanium is #AwareWithPink

If you remember a few months back I had the opportunity to test out the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium bone conduction headphones as a BibRavePro – you can read a full review of the Trekz Titanium here.

Now AfterShokz has now gone PINK!  And I’m happy to be collaborating with them and FitApproach!

What does it mean that AfterShokz has gone Pink?

IMG_8595

They literally have gone pink, with new Limited Edition bright pink colored Trekz Titanium headphones.  These seriously are my favorite wireless headphones because they allow you to be aware of your surroundings because you don’t wear them in your ear, but instead they sit on the bone in front of your ear.

They are sweat-proof, light-weight and stay put pretty much no matter what.  I’ve got about 10 hours on one charge when I wore them at Nanny Goat 12 hour listening to audio books.

2016-08-01 (1)

With the purchase of every pair of the Limited Edition Trekz Titanium headphones from now until the end of October 2016, AfterShokz will donate 25% of the proceeds to an organization called Bright Pink.  Bright Pink is a non-profit organization that brings awareness & action to breast & ovarian cancer.

I’m excited to see AfterShokz partnering with a non-profit like Bright Pink, because I truly believe that being proactive and advocating for your own health is super important. Especially in light of my brother-in-law’s fight with cancer right now as well.  As they say, hind sight is 20/20 but if he had sought a second opinion in the early stages, his treatment might be very different right now.

AfterShokz’s open ear design was created to allow users to be more aware and this campaign brings that full circle.  They are not only bringing awareness of what’s around us, but also bringing breast & ovarian cancer awareness to the forefront.

So what does that mean for you?  First off, if you are interested in purchasing a pair of the awesome Trekz Titanium Pink, you can receive an awesome storage case.  I absolutely love mine.  It’s so much nicer than the original case that came with the yellow/blue Trekz Titanium.  I took it with me to Europe and it was jam packed with cords, cables, jewelry and of course my new hot Pink headphones.

IMG_8596

The Titanium Pink headphones retail for $129.99 which is comparable to similar wireless headphones and if you use code PinkGift you’ll receive a small portable storage case ($11.95 value).  **To receive the case for free, you’ll need to add it to your cart and then use code PinkGift which will apply the discount.  The code won’t work without the case in your cart.**

And from here until the end of October, use the hashtag #AwareWithPink on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter and AfterShokz will donate an additional 25 cents to Bright Pink everytime the hashtag is used.

Pink is not only one of my favorite colors, it’s also a way to give back and I’m happy to be partnering with an company that cares in so many ways.

REVIEW: XX2i Australia1 Sunglasses

Disclaimer: I received a pair of XX2i Australia1 sunglasses to review  as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”

My collection of XX2i sunglasses continues to grow with the addition of the Australia1 that came out in mid July.  I have previously reviewed the USA1, the Hawaii1 and the casual Bermuda1.

IMG_3519

With all those other glasses, what makes the Australia1 different?

From the XX2i website:  Equipped with the tools for a variety of adventures, the Australia1 is XX2i’s only performance sunglass featuring an interchangeable temple arm / strap system for intense activities. The Australia1 also incorporates a removable padded insert for extra protection against the elements, and a sturdy frame with a unique wraparound style for enhanced peripheral vision. This model comes standard with polarized lenses that employ 8K optical technology, ensuring the utmost lens clarity and frame durability.

The Australia1 comes in 3 different colors, Matte Black, Matte Black & White & Matte Turquoise.  I choose the turquoise because I really liked the Brown lenses on the Bermuda1 vs the grey lenses on my USA1 and Hawaii1 and wanted to try something different.

IMG_5411

When I first opened the glasses, I was a little concerned because unlike the USA1 & the Hawaii1, they don’t have an adjustable nose piece.  It looked similar to the Bermuda1, but I was pleasantly surprised that it fit much better than the Bermuda1 and the temple pieces are adjustable.

The padded insert and action strap that are included with the Australia1 are super easy to use.  The padded insert clicks right into an open area above the nose piece and then you just fit it with the glasses.  The arms pop out easily to put on the strap.  This is so much easier than changing the USA1’s interchangeable arms.

IMG_5413

While I don’t participate in activities that require these additions, it is nice to know that if we ever decide to run in a windy desert or participate in water sports, these glasses will help to protect our eyes.

I don’t have any major complaints about these glasses.  The fit is decent, although I do feel like they can be a little tight if I put them on top of my head.  I like the color of the lenses and that the arms are easy to remove.

Want a pair for yourself?  Join us at #bibchat on Tuesday, Aug. 16 to win a pair or use code XX2iROCKS for 50% off the Australia1 or other styles.

REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: SKINS DNAmic Women’s Speed Crop Sports Bra

Disclosure: I received a SKINS DNAmic Women’s Speed Crop from SKINS through my partnership with FitApproach.

I am always on the hunt for a good sports bra and when I had the opportunity to try the SKINS DNAmic Women’s Speed Crop, I was super excited.

What makes the SKINS DNAmic Speed Crop different?

IMG_1326

From the website…with medium impact support and smooth elastic straps that won’t dig into your shoulders, the SKINS DNAmic Crop Top is built to take the discomfort and distraction out of your workout.

The fabrics are warp knitted to give superior performance and mixed with spandex to for a controlled compression.  The fabrics also have a UV protection of 50+ and keep you dry through advance wicking properties.

Probably the biggest difference between the SKINS DNAmic Speed Crop and a normal sports bra is their muscle focus.  Uniquely wrapping and supporting your key muscle groups to reduce movement and focus direction for less vibration in your muscles, less soft tissue damage and less soreness after exercise.

And the fact that in order to get the full benefits of the compression element you have to get the proper sizing use a BMI algorithm.  Which means what exactly?  Well basically you have to take your measurements to make sure you get the proper size.

They have both a size guide and a calculator on their site which makes it really easy to determine your size.  I do recommend measuring yourself around the largest part of the chest because most women wear the wrong size sports bra and if I had ordered my bra size I would have had the wrong size and the Speed Crop would have been way too small.

SKINS DNAmic Speed Crop Review & Giveaway

So now that we’ve gotten through all the technical stuff, how does it feel on?

First off, I got the size medium and it was a perfect fit.  I don’t feel like it’s too tight or too loose and when running I didn’t really feel like I had it on.

The elastic straps really don’t dig into the shoulders and I felt supported but not suffocated like I have in some compression sports bras.

The Speed Crop comes with removable cups for modesty.

IMG_2023

How does it perform?

I ran in the Speed Crop a few times and I wore it while traveling.  I didn’t have any issues, it kept me supported and felt great on.

My only complaint would be that the straps are super wide so it doesn’t fit well under my tanks and tees.  If the straps could just be a little more narrow, I would say it’s perfect.  I’m sure it would be fine if I was a sports bra only girl.

I personally like my Lululemon tops for their cooling properties, see I sweat a lot and for me, when my CRBs and Run Swiftlys get wet, they actually keep me cooler than skin alone.  I have tested it out and this is what works for me.  If you are a sports bra only girl, more power to you!

Now that I’m off my soap box, lol, let’s get back on track.  As far as colors – the Speed Crop comes in currently comes in 6 colors: Black, Black/Limoncello (what I have), *Living Lines, *Midnight/Sage (both of which are on sale), Junkyard Geo, Lampone & Cerulean.  The last 3 are new & very pretty shades of pink and blue.

So now that I’ve told you all about the SKINS DNAmic Speed Crop and how it worked for me who wants to win one for themselves?

Review: Bull & Cleaver Biltong & Chili Bites

The nice people at Bull & Cleaver gave me the opportunity to try out two of their products, Bitlong & Chili Bites in exchange for this review.

When I first heard them say Biltong I didn’t know what that was, I’ve heard of and eaten different types of jerky, but I haven’t heard of Biltong before. But being a foodie, I googled briefly, found something that looked tasty, read a little about it and then was like uh Yum!

Bull and Cleaver Biltong

So then what is Biltong?  From the Bull & Cleaver website:

Biltong is a form of seasoned dried meat similar to jerky made exclusively from fine cuts of all beef steak. Even though biltong and jerky are both dried meats, there are a few differences that give biltong a fuller and more flavorful taste preferred by carnivores and omnivores all over the world. It really all comes down to how these two dried meats are prepared.

Biltong originates in South Africa and involves a specific recipe and process, whereas jerky has its origins in North America and has had a mixed reputation over the last couple years. Jerky is a dehydrated meat usually cut into small pieces dried in a dehydrator or oven and flavoured with sugar based sauces and marinades. Biltong on the other hand is air dried for a minimum of 7 days and always starts with a full cut of steak which encourages an aging process that gives the meat its unique flavor. The process of making biltong also includes seasoning the meat in vinegar and rubbing it spices such as pepper and coriander to bring out all of the delectable flavors of the meat.

One of the benefits of air drying and the simple use of spices is that biltong retains more protein, contains less salt and uses no preservatives.

The Biltong has a very meaty yet mild taste, it’s lightly seasoned with vinegar, salt, coriander & black pepper and is incredibly high in protein.  One 4 oz bag has only 320 calories, 60g protein, 10g fat & no carbohydrates.  It reminds me of a beef proscuitto.

Let me tell you, I’m a little sad I only have one bag, I seriously could have eaten it all in one sitting but I’ve been good & only eating a little bit here and there to save it.

I also got a bag of Chili Bites, which also taste amazing with a little spicy bite, but I did feel like they were a bit tougher to eat.

Bull and Cleaver Chili Bites

The Chili Bites are made from beef, salt, coriander, black pepper, red pepper, chili powder, garlic, paprika, onion, tumeric.

For a quick, tasty and protein filled snack, Biltong is definitely something that I’ll be reaching for.

Want to try Bull & Cleaver’s products for yourself?  Head over to their website and you can get 15% off using code RUNNER.  And let me know what you think.

Have you ever tried Biltong?

Review: XX2i Hawaii1 Sunglasses

Disclaimer: I received a pair of XX2i Hawaii 1 Sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

The Hawaii1 are my 3rd pair of XX2i sunglasses and they are my new favorites.

Smiling thru everything

I’ve been wearing the USA1 glasses since December and I really like them, they are lightweight, comfortable and polarized.  If you follow me on Instagram you’ve probably seen me wearing them for the last few months.  And you can read my review of them here.

I’ve also got a pair of the new casual Bermuda1 glasses, which have the best lenses, but aren’t quite as comfortable as the USA1 & Hawaii1.

What is special about the Hawaii1?

XX2i, Hawaii1, Bibchat, bibravepro, bibrave

From the XX2i website: Carbon fiber and Polarized 8k optics combine in XX2i’s new Hawaii1 performance sunglasses.  Extremely lightweigh & easily adjustable the Hawaii1 instantly adapts for any face shape or activity.  Together with a completely bendable nose piece and rubber temple arms, these shades won’t budge or slide when you need to keep your focus.

They come in 3 different colors, white, which I have, black & tortoise.  The white & black have polar grey lenses while the tortoise have the awesome polar brown, which I have on the Bermuda1.

XX2i, Hawaii1, Bibchat, bibravepro, bibrave

What I like about these glasses, they are super lightweight.  I didn’t have to make any adjustments at all to make them fit perfectly.

Another nice thing about these is that the bottom of the lens doesn’t have a frame around it so I can look down and see my phone without having to take off my glasses (in light other than direct sunlight).

XX2i, Hawaii1, Bibchat, bibravepro, bibrave

The only complaint I have about these is the little rubber pieces on the arms.  They get stuck in my hair especially when it’s wet and sweaty.  I’ve figured out a way to take them off without pulling out my hair now, but that was a bit of a problem for me at first.

Even with the hair pulling issue, I feel like I would reach for the Hawaii1 9x out of 10 over any other pair of glasses.

The Hawaii1 retails for $124.99 but you can save 50% by using the code XX2iRocks.

And if you join #BibChat tomorrow at 6pm Pacific, you might have a change to win a pair for yourself.  I promise you will love them.

Review: Garden of Flavor Juices

I’m linking up with Running with SD Mom for Try Out Thursdays today.

As you’ve probably seen in some of my race reports lately, I’ve been drinking a lot of juice in the day or so before a long race to help hydrate better.  I believe that a lot of my stomach issues stemmed from the fact that I wasn’t hydrating well in the days before a race, which really doesn’t do me any favors on race day.

That being said, the nice folks at Garden of Flavor sent me an awesome package of juices to try out.  I received a package with 7 different juices, 1 bottle of Vegan nut mylk and then their 4 new Cold Pressed Energy drinks in exchange for this review.

Garden of Flavor, Cold Pressed Juice

They overnighted me a package and all the juices were still super cold when I opened the box.

Garden of Flavor, Cold Pressed Juice

I tried the following juices: (my thoughts are in italic)
Green Harmony: A mix of dark leafy greens & more active probiotics than yogurt.

Ingredients (all organic): Cucumber, Apples, Romaine Lettuce, Kale, Celery, Lemon, Spinach, Parsley & over 1 billion deliverable probiotic cultures.

Green Harmony had a strong celery flavor which overpowered most everything else for me.  I was excited about this one because I thought it would taste sweet because of the apple, but that was not the case.  Green Harmony is definitely a veggie juice.

Mean Greens: Alkalizing greens including lots of kale and chlorophyll

Ingredients (all organic): Celery, Cucumber, Kale, Spinach, Romaine & Lemon

This was one of my favorites, it was definitely a veggie drink with no fruit outside of the lemon, but it was super smooth with no aftertaste.  I didn’t get the strong celery taste I did with Green Harmony.

Appleade: A digestive supporting lemonade that fortifies the immune system

Ingredients (all organic): Apple, Lemon, Ginger Root & over 1 billion deliverable probiotic cultures

Appleade had a super smooth flavor and tasted a bit like cold apple cider with a kick of ginger.  I really liked this one too and would use this as a substitute for a spicy lemonade.

Twisted Roots: Ingredients (all organic): Carrot, Beet & Lemon

I really wasn’t expecting to like this one as I am not a fan of beets but I was pleasantly surprised.  Twisted Roots was really a lot sweeter than I was expecting.  I haven’t had a lot of luck with beet juices because they are too strong but this one I would definitely recommend.

Tumeric Tonic: A crisp lemonade infused with 3 ancient spices, cayenne, ginger & tumeric root.

Ingredients (all organic): Purified Water, Lemon, Blue Agave, Tumeric Root, Ginger Root, Mint, Cayenne Pepper & over 1 billion deliverable probiotic cultures

This was probably my least favorite of the juices, it had a strong ginger flavor, but I think it was the tumeric I don’t really like.

Garden of Flavor, Cold Pressed Juice

Goji Pineapple: Garden of Flavor’s “super drink” including the super food, Goji berry which is packed with protein, amino acids & 3x the antioxidants of blueberries.

Ingredients (all organic): Pineapple, Goji Berries, Apple, Ginger, Mint & Lemon

A lighter tasting, sweeter juice with a slight kick of ginger.  The first time I tried this one, I wasn’t sure about it, but the second time I tried it, I thought it was pretty good.

The Grasshopper: A mix of dark leafy greens, pineapple & mint with a shot of wheatgrass to provide 10 grams of plant-based protein.

Ingredients (all organic): Wheatgrass, Pineapple, Apple, Mint Tea, Kale, Spinach, Romaine, Parsley, Mint & Lemon

Another of my favorites, I was really skeptical of this one at first because of the tea & I’ve never really had Wheatgrass before.  Made of 12% tea, 88% juice, this is the only juice that is not 100% juice.  Super smooth, sweet and just overall yum!  This was definitely the sweetest of their juices.

White Knight: Garden of Flavor’s version of Cashew Milk.  This dessert in a bottle is a creamy semi-sweet milk with a touch of cinnamon.

Ingredients (all organic): Purified Water, Cashew Nuts, Agave Nectar, Vanilla Bean, Cinnamon

Cashew milk has always one of my favorites, and the White Knight doesn’t disappoint.  It was different than the other cashew milks I’ve tried in that it was incredible smooth. Most cashew milks have a bit of substance to them and this one didn’t so I was waiting for the thickness and it never came.  The flavor was right on though and I enjoyed this one.

On the Cold Pressed Energy side they sent me a bottle of each of the four flavors: Guayusa & Aronia berries, Guayusa & Tumeric, Guayusa & Wheatgrass & Guayusa & Pear.

Garden of Flavor, Cold Pressed Energy

Guayasa delivers 100mg of natural plant based caffeine providing sustainable energy without the jitters or crashing.

Of the four drinks, I only tried the Guayusa & Pear, I’m not really an energy drink kind of person and outside of coffee & the occasional soda I don’t drink any drinks with added caffeine.  I liked the flavor of this one, it was kind of like a pear tea drink.

Sean tried the other 3 cold pressed energy drinks and liked the Wheatgrass & Aronia Berries.  He didn’t really like the flavor of the Tumeric & Ginger one.  I guess neither of us are fans of Tumeric lol.  Which is unfortunate because I’ve heard a lot about it being good for runners.

Based in Cleveland, Garden of Flavor juices aren’t available in California yet, but they are all over the Midwest, mid Atlantic and Northeast.  If you are in those areas of the country you can find Garden of Flavor here.

All in all I was impressed by the flavors and the variety of juice that Garden of Flavor offers and if it was available in San Diego, I would definitely be using some of these juices as part of my pre-race juicing routine.

Do you drink cold-pressed juice? And if so what is your favorite kind?

Review: Full UV Buff

Disclaimer: I received a Full UV Buff to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Last summer I got my first buff, a UV Half Buff.  I’ve also had the change to try the Original Full Buff and now the Full UV Buff.

UV, Buff, Buff USA, Bibrave, bibchat, whoo's in el moro

What is the difference between the original and the UV version?

From the Buff USA website: UV BUFF® headwear keeps the sun fun while blocking 95% of harmful UV rays*. Hour after hour, COOLMAX® Extreme fabric wicks away sweat to keep you cool and Polygiene® Active Odor Control neautralizes odor.

The biggest differences are that the UV Buff is made with the COOLMAX® Extreme fabric and blocks UV rays. I found that the UV Buff was a lighter fabric that the Original which feels a lot softer and better on the skin than the Original as well.

Paksit Photos, Whoo's in El Moro, BuffUSA, Bibrave

There are a lot of ways to wear the UV Buff but my favorite ways are around the neck and on my wrist.  It’s been really hot here in San Diego so my Buff has been coming in very handy.

Buff USA, Bibrave, Trail Running, Orange Mud

The UV Buff comes in a lot of different colors and patterns, there’s something for everyone.  I picked the Mosaic pattern which has a lot of different colors in it so I can always be #runmatchy™ :).

Buff USA, Bibrave

Don’t forget that you can have a chance to win $215 of Buff gear in the Buff in the Wild Instagram & Twitter contest.

And come to #BibChat on Tuesday, May 17 for a chance to win one of your own.

REVIEW: Amazing Grass Protein Superfood & Giveaway

I received a container of Amazing Grass Protein Superfood through my association with FitApproach.  All opinions are my own.

I’ve been talking about my search for a good and tasty protein powder for a while now.  I tried Vitamin Pit Stop’s USANA Nutrimeal earlier this year and it was ok, but left a thick aftertaste.

So when my friends at FitApproach gave me the chance to try Amazing Grass Protein Superfood, I was intrigued.  I’ve tried some other Amazing Grass products and enjoyed them so I thought this might be a great fit.

Amazing Grass, Protein Superfood, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chia, FitApproach, SweatPink

So what’s different about Amazing Grass Protein Superfood?  First off it’s called Super Food!

From the website: It is an all in one nutritional shake including:
20 grams of Complete Plant Protein from organic hemp, organic chia, organic quinoa & organic pea proteins.
7 alkalizing greens including organic grasses, organic acai, goji, organic pineapple, organic sweet potato & more.
2 servings of fruits & vegetables

That’s a lot of stuff in one scoop.  And to top it off Amazing Grass Protein Superfood is certified USDA Organic, Vegan, Kosher, GMO & Gluten Free with no added sugar.

Protein Superfood promotes lean muscle, satisfies hunger & aids digestion.

Amazing Grass, Protein Superfood, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chia, FitApproach, SweatPink, Pure Vanilla, The Original

Protein Superfood comes in 3 flavors, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Pure Vanilla & The Original.  I picked Chocolate Peanut Butter because I wanted to try something different.

I will say if I would like to try the Pure Vanilla & The Original because I think would be able to be used in a lot more flavor combinations.

As with the other protein powder I tried, the first thing I did was mix one scoop with 12 oz of water (as shown on the container) add a little ice in the blender and try it out.  I’ll admit it was a little light on flavor probably because I added in too much ice, but the flavor was yummy.  The kitties all wanted to try it too, but Protein Superfood is only for people, not little kitties ;).

Next I tested it by mixing it with some steel cut oats and created a peanut butter apple oatmeal as part of my breakfast and it was super yum.

And then I made a chocolate peanut butter smoothie, which I really enjoyed.

1/2 c Silk chocolate soymilk
1/2 c Silk soymilk
1 scoop Protein Superfood
2 Tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
Handful of ice cubes

You can find recipes for each type of Protein Superfood online including Maple Blueberry featuring Pure Vanilla, Green Island Groove with The Original and Chocolate PB&J.

I’ve been really picky with choosing a protein powder for my smoothies and I really like that Amazing Grass is all organic and plant based as I don’t drink cows milk any longer and try to stay away from dairy as much as I can.
