REVIEW: 2XU Women’s Elite MCS Compression Tights & Sweet Discount

Disclaimer: I received a pair of 2XU Elite MCS Compression Tights to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador) & Apply until November 10, and check out to review find and write race reviews!

As a runner, I’ve found compression items to be a big help to me when running & recovering from long runs/races, etc.  I typically wear just compression socks/sleeves, but when I was given the opportunity to try the 2XU Elite Compression Tights, I was like sure, let’s see what they can do.

2XU, MCS Run, Bibchat

From the 2XU website:  Product Details

The Elite MCS Compression tight offers unparalled power and protection against muscle trauma during intense activity. Graduated engineering also offers impressive recovery benefits post exercise. The next generation in 2XU Compression technology – MCS (Muscle Containment Stamping) for targeted compression. MCS is a revolutionary fabric support system traced over key muscle, tendon and fascia groups to focus greater compression power to wrap precise areas and reduce muscle oscillation and damage. Front panels are engineered with powerful PWX FLEX (70D) fabric combined with MCS focused to the quads. Rear panels are engineered with powerful PWX WEIGHT (105D) fabric for support to the hamstrings and MCS focused to the calf.

Specific features to these tights:

  • PWX Flex (70D) offers powerful compression to abductors, quads and shins. MCS is targeted to quads for ultimate muscle protection. Anatomical mapping ensures maximum containment and support.
  • PWX Weight (105D) fabric rear panels deliver powerful compression to protect the glut, hamstring and calf muscles. MCS is targeted to the calf for ultimate muscle protection.
  • Drawstring waistband for secure fit and internal pocket for storage.
  • Flatlock seams to reduce chafe for greater comfort.
  • Powerful Invista LYCRA® for exceptional fit, support and recovery.
  • Antibacterial and UPF50+ sun protection.
  • High filament yarns for dryness wicks sweat from the skin to the fabric exterior.
  • Graduated compression increases blood circulation for improved recovery and reduced muscle stiffness post exercise.

Now that we’ve got all the specifics out of the way, what you really want to know is did they work and how did they feel on.

Compression is a tricky thing, so you have to make sure you have the right size, I went to the website and checked out their size chart.  I’m 5’8 and fluctuate between 130-135lbs which is right on the cusp of the small/medium size.  While the website says that if you are on the cusp to go down, I opted to go up mostly because I’m typically closer to 135lbs and I’ve been having some issues with things fitting too tightly around the waist.

2XU, MCS Run, San Diego, Bibchat, Mission Bay, Altra Running, Running4thosewhocant

I received my tights and even though it was 90 degrees out, I immediately put them on.  First impressions?  The waistband was soooo tight and uncomfortable but other than that, they fit and felt great.

I wore them on a road trip up to Newport Beach the day after a long run/hike and they made my legs feel really refreshed.

Wearing them up in the 40 degree weather while in the snow, while hike/running the Dolomites wasn’t an issue either, my legs never really felt cold so that was nice because the material is quite thin.  I will say though that day we hiked/ran over 13 miles with over 3,000 ft of elevation change and my legs did hurt so these tights while awesome are not going to eliminate soreness from long or hard workouts.  But I did notice that my recovery time was faster from wearing them.

2xu, mcs run, bibchat, italy, dolomites, mountain running, the northface, altra running

Final Thoughts:  The MCS Compression Tights are a new favorite and I have to thank BibRave & 2XU for allowing me to try them and get out of my Lululemon comfort zone.  These are expensive tights, they sell for $149 so they aren’t something I’m going to just buy to try.

I love the way my legs feel while wearing them and afterwards the quicker recovery time is awesome.

There are a few things I would change, first the waistband, it’s very uncomfortable and as with other things compression, gives you a bit of a muffin top, I feel like it would be better with a wider waistband.  Also, and I don’t know if this is because I had the wrong size or what, I felt like I was pulling them up around the crotch area a lot.  That’s why I have a lulu obsession because I’ve found pairs of tights that fit perfectly and I don’t have pull on them to get them to fit properly.

2xu, mcs run, bibchat, italy, dolomites, mountain running, the northface, altra running

All in all though, the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I would definitely recommend these tights to anyone.

Which brings us to the discount portion of my review.  If you too would like to try 2XU products, any product(s) you can get 20% off (as many orders as you would like) by using the code BIBRAVE20.  Check them out and let me know what you think.

Mighty Nut Peanut Butter Recipe & Giveaway

Have you ever seen those memes that say something to the effect of if you don’t like peanut butter then we can’t be friends? Well I love peanut butter and I kinda feel that way.  Which is why Fitapproach and Mighty Nut gave me the opportunity to test out the new powdered peanut butter, come up with a recipe and then give away a jar, I was the one jumping up and down in my living room.

I did receive 2 containers of powdered peanut butter and a cool scoop in exchange for my review, recipe and giveaway – as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

So what is powdered peanut butter and how is it different from the regular stuff?

At Mighty Nut (from the bottle) they’ve taken quality USA grown peanuts, roasted them and pressed them to remove most of the fat.  What remains is protein, fiber and delicious peanut buttery taste.

There are 4 flavors of Mighty Nut, Original, Vanilla, Chocolate and Flax & Chia.  None of them have more than 1.5g of fat, which is 85% less fat than traditional peanut butter.  The original and vanilla both have 6g of Protein while the chocolate and flax & chia both have 5g of Protein.  The powder can be rehydrated by adding water and can be used for shakes, as spreads or for baking.

I’m pretty picky about my peanut butter, and I’ve tried powdered peanut butter before and wasn’t super impressed.  I have to say though, that Mighty Nut is really tasty.  I’m not sure what they’ve done to make it different but it’s really good.

If you know me IRL, you would know that I know how to cook, but I don’t do it very often. I do however love to bake.  I used to make cookie cakes for holidays and for my high school graduation I made them for my own party and for a bunch of my friends as well.  But here’s the caveat or the burnt toast moment, I am not very good at baking without a recipe, I’ve made my share mistakes, like the 2 tier cake that never rose, not sure what happened there so I like to have a recipe and more specifically a photo so I know if what I’ve made is right lol.

In honor of our honeymoon in Italy and my love of sweets, I decided to make a Peanut Butter & Nutella muffin.  I found a peanut butter muffin recipe on the Real Simple website which was by Richard B. Stolley, adapted from Stella Stolley’s Recipe Box and then adapted to become my own.

Unfortunately, the muffins were a bit dry and I didn’t put enough peanut butter powder so they weren’t perfect.  So I went back to the drawing board and decided to just make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.  I got a bag of Nestle chocolate chips and added about 3/4 cup of the Mighty Night Peanut Butter powder.  The batter tasted soooo peanut buttery and yummy.  But when I baked the cookies, you couldn’t taste the peanut butter.

So third times the charm right?  I decided to keep it super simple and just made Peanut Butter & Apple Overnight Oats.  Which was awesome and super peanut buttery.

Here is my recipe.

1/2 c rolled oats
1/2 c milk (normally I would use Silk soymilk but I was out and didn’t want to buy a big container since I was leaving in 2 days :))
1/2 small Honeycrisp apple chopped
2 scoops Mighty Nut Peanut Butter Powder

I layered everything in a mason jar and then mixed it up and put it in the fridge overnight.

The next day, I had a super yummy and super peanut buttery treat.

Now, for the fun part…Time for a giveaway!  One winner (if you have already won another sweatpink ambassador’s giveaway, you aren’t eligible unfortunately) will win 1 container of Mighty Nut Peanut Butter powder in your choice of flavor and a logoed scoop.

The Food Dare Book Review

The Food Dare. One thing you can do everyday to eat healthier.

The Food Dare. One thing you can do everyday to eat healthier.

I had the opportunity to get an advance copy of The Food Dare by Lindsey Banks through my association with Fitfluential to review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you are alike me, you want to eat healthy all the time but with all the travel and being so busy, it’s a lot easier to eat out or just grab something fast.  And when you are like me and love french fries and sweets, that’s not quite as healthy as it should be.

The Food Dare is written on the basis that if we we can make one small change a day it will help us be healthier. It is not a diet, but a way to slowly make lifestyle changes. Lindsey tells us that this is not a dare that is to be taken lightly, you have to be ready to commit and be determined to finish.  With all my travel in the last month and this coming month, I’m not ready to commit yet (I’m going to Italy and I’m going to eat what I want on my honeymoon :)), but I plan to when we get back.

The Food Dare is a 30 day program is broken down into 3 phases, Water, Color & Clean.

Phase 1 (Days 1 – 10) is Water.  As water takes up over 60% of our bodies, this phases teaches us to increase our consumption, through drinking more water and getting it from whole foods, specifically fruits and veggies.

Phase 2 (Days 11 – 20) is Color.  Color stands for fruit & vegetables and this phase teaches us ways to eat more of them.  By incorporating them into every meal and substituting fruits & veggies for unhealthier options.

Phase 3 (Days 21 – 30) is Clean.  Clean means eating more whole unprocessed foods.   This sections is devoted to teaching us about what types of grains, proteins & fats that are the best choices.

The Food Dare is meant to teach us healthy habits that we will incorporate into our daily lives.   I am really looking committing to the Dare when I get back from Italy.

As we enter into the Holiday Season and have so many temptations around us, this is a great way to get a head start on making healthy choices.  If you would like to try The Food Dare for yourself Lindsey is offering a 20% off coupon to  The Food Dare Essential and Premium Teams. Coupon code is “idareyou” and will expire on Nov. 30th. You can find more information about the teams here:

Review: Full Buff from BuffUSA

Disclaimer: I received a Full Buff from BuffUSA  to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!

I received and purchased my own UV Half Buffs which I reviewed a while back, you can see my review here.  I loved my half buff and wore them all the time so I was really excited to try the full buff.  Since the BibRave color is Orange, all of the Pros who tried the Full Buff received a very bright orange buff to test.

Buff USA, UV Buff, Orange Buff, BibRave, BibChat

So what is the difference between a full buff and a half buff?

From the BuffUSA website: Simple, effective and infinitely adaptable, Original BUFF® headwear is the product that started the multifunctional headwear revolution. At its core is a moisture-managing microfiber fabric that is wind resistant and able to control odor. Original BUFF® headwear can be worn more than 12 different ways, from a cap to a balaclava to a hair tie, for a personalized style and perfect fit.
  • Soft, breathable 100% microfiber polyester
  • 100% seamless
  • 12+ ways to wear
  • Polygiene® Active Odor Control
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Thermal protection from cold & wind
  • Quick-drying
  • 2-way lateral stretch
  • One size fits all adults
  • 20.8″ h x 9.75″ w
  • 2.9 oz.

Really it’s not that much different, the main difference is the size, the full buff is significantly longer than the half buff so that you can use it as a face mask, balaclava or even as a hood.

I used it while on hike/run around my neck, which worked for a while until I felt like it was a little too snug around my neck (my issue – I have a hard time with tight things around my neck sometimes) and then under my hat.

Buff USA, UV Buff, Orange Buff, BibRave, BibChat, San Diego

Having loved my half buff, I wanted to love the full one too, but in all honesty, I prefer the half buff.  Why?  Because the full was a slightly different thickness and I felt like it was a bit more snug around my neck.  In general I felt like it was a bit tighter and that was mostly because it was a lot longer than the half buff so I had to double/triple/quadruple it in order to get the right fit for a headband, hair tie, etc.

Buff USA, UV Buff, Orange Buff, BibRave, BibChat, San Diego

This isn’t how they mean for it to be used, I’m sure, but I used my full buff when I was sleeping in the car while following Sean around at the Tahoe 200.  I put it on my head, used it to keep my ears warm and block out light from the car or street lights.  It worked great :).  So you can always find a way to use a buff in a new and inventive way.

I still love my Buffs, I just think I’ll stick with the half buff, which fits me better.

As we are getting into autumn and winter, those of you in the colder areas of the country might be more interested in the full buff.

REVIEW: Bulu Box

Disclosure: I received a Bulu Box for free through my association with Fitapproach (SweatPink). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love subscription boxes.  I have tried tons of them, mostly beauty related and I have been getting both Birchbox & Glossybox monthly for the past few years.  I love the idea of getting to try new things every month so when I had the opportunity to try Bulu Box I jumped on it.

Bulu Box, Sweat Pink, Fitapproach, subscription box

Bulu Box gives you the chance to try 4 – 5 supplements, healthy snacks and/or weight loss products each month.  And there are 2 different types of Bulu Boxes – Original and Weight Loss.

From the website:

Bulu Box Original: This box provides a well-rounded sampling of all things health and nutrition. Each box contains 4 to 5 premium samples such as sports nutrition, sleep, and healthy snacks. Plus lifestyle extras like gym gift cards or DVDs to cover all aspects of health!

Bulu Box Weight Loss: Designed specifically to help with the varying factors of weight loss, this box contains 4 to 5 premium weight loss items such as energy aids, healthy snacks, sleep aids and fat-burners. Plus bonus weight loss items like fitness gear and kitchen tools.

I didn’t have a choice of boxes and received the Weight Loss box.  The 5 products I got to test were as follows: (descriptions from the info sheet provided by Bulu Box)

Bulu Box, Sweat Pink, Fitapproach, subscription box

RUNA Tea: Powered by Guayusa, a native Amazonian tree leaf.  Runa Teas provide as much caffeine as a cup of coffee and tice the antioxidants of green tea.  Replace your calorie filled energy drinks with this tasty natural option.

Runa Tea is USDA Organic and Fair Trade Certified as well as Kosher

Simple Being Simple Diet: Simple Diet features an effective 4-part blend of ingredients such as Green Coffee Bean, African Mango, Acai and Resveratrol to promote fat burning, appetite suppression and boost metabolism.

Movit Energy Gummies: Movit Energy Gummies use power-boosting ingredients like guarana, CoQ10 and folic acid to combat fatigue and help you perform your best!  Movit Energy Gummies contain just 60 calories per serving.

I received the Citrus Flavor.

Fusion Jerky: Fusion Jerky offers a unique, high protein flavor experience made using real chicken and nothing artificial.  This delicious jerky option is gluten-free, minimally processed and 99% fat free.  It also comes in beef, pork & turkey.

Made in the USA.  I received the Lemon Pepper flavor.

Earth’s Care Anti-Itch Cream: Relieve pain and itching associated with skin irritations such as poison ivy, sunburn & minor cuts and scrapes.  Earth’s Care Anti-Itch cream contains no artificial colors or fragrances and is petroleum free.

It includes Natural Camphor & Menthol.

It’s unfortunate that I didn’t get the Original box, for several reasons: 1) because I am not trying to lose weight and 2) I have a sensitivity to caffeine and other than coffee, tea and the occasional Coke I don’t use products with added caffeine.

So that being said, I wasn’t able to test 3 out of the 5 products I received because they included ingredients like Guayusa, guarna & other fat burning ingredients.

I did try the Fusion Jerky which was pretty yummy.  I tend to be really picky and I don’t eat jerky normally so I wasn’t expecting to like this.

I also tried the anti-itch cream, immediately I could smell the menthol.  It reminded me of a Bio Freeze/Icy Hot type of product.  I had a little bit of itching around my knee from the scabs I got when falling during a few runs and it seemed to work to stop the itch.

Since I didn’t try the other products I can’t speak on them.  However it is nice to see that there are more organic and natural products out there though versus diet products full of chemicals.

As with the other subscription boxes I’ve received there are months when I like more products than others, but it is still a great and inexpensive way to try new things.  My suggestion would be just to try the box type that is more applicable to your life style.  I would have preferred an original box.

The box sells for $10 a month and you can get a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription.  T

REVIEW: SLS3 Butterfly Compression Socks & Giveaway

Disclosure: I was given a pair of SLS3 Butterfly Compression Socks to review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

At the beginning of August I was asked to try a pair of SLS3 compression socks or sleeves and write a review of them.

I immediately went to the website because I wasn’t familiar with this brand, and they not only make compression socks & sleeves but triathlon gear.  Tri race suits, shorts, tops & accessories for both men & women.

I went right to the compression page and immediately knew which style I was going to choose.  But socks or sleeves? Decisions, Decisions…

First, who is SLS3?  From their website, SLS3 started when in 2004 two German pro triathletes that met, fell in love and with a passion & very little money started a brand.  They started out only making the 4 essentials needed to complete a triathlon, suit, shorts, top and one kind of compression sock.  Those 4 items though were made with great care, attention to detail, German precision and a hefty dose of passion for the sport.

As they grew, they started to add more pieces, styles, etc. in response to customer requests.  Based in California, the majority of their products are made in the USA, which allows them to have a very small carbon footprint, create & sustain jobs and partner with other small businesses.

Now, let’s talk about what can compression do for you?

From the SLS3 website…

Compression garments like compression socks, compression sleeves and compression shorts help your body perform and recover better. Whether in training or racing, compression clothing helps delay and reduce the onset of muscle fatigue, prevents post-exercise soreness and evacuates metabolic waste products such as lactic acid by increasing the flow rate of the blood in the venous system. Improved blood circulation back to the heart results in faster new oxygen supply in your muscles.

SLS3 has 3 different styles of compression socks & sleeves.

The FXC Running Compression Sock, which features:

20-30 mmHG of true graduated compression for increased blood circulation, muscle oxygenation and stability
Mid sole air cooling channels for perfect moisture control
Left and right foot specific shape plus separate knitting zones for optimal fit
Seamless TekWeb technology to prevent blisters
Padding in pressure areas: Ball, heel, achilles, top of arch for shock absorption and protection
Antimicrobial fibers for odor control
Cooling effect and UV protection

The FXC Butterfly Compression Sock, which features:

20-30 mmHG of graduated compression
Seamless TekWeb technology
Muscle Stability
Increased Bloodflow
Web knit for more support of arch
Cooling effect and UV protection

And, how cute are they?

SLS3, Butterfly, Compression Socks, Teal

And the Allrounder Compression Sock, which is more of the basic sock and features:

20-30 mmHG of true graduated compression for increased blood circulation, muscle oxygenation and stability
Seamless TekWeb technology to prevent blisters
Antimicrobial fibers for odor control
Cooling effect and UV protection

So which socks did I pick?  Of course the Butterfly ones.  They were super cute and had great girly colors.

They come in Teal, Purple, Pink & Light Blue and I choose the Teal.

Compression socks are interesting, as they don’t run the same size for all brands, every brand is slightly different in their sizing.  I wear a size 8.5 in normal shoes/a 10 in running shoes and I measured my calf to be 14.5in at the time so I thought that we thought that the S/M would work perfect.  I have been having some issues with retaining water, which must be why my super pretty butterfly socks are just a bit too tight for me to wear for longer than about 5 minutes.  I should have gone up a size.

SLS3, Butterfly, Compression Socks, Teal

They are so cute, I really wanted to wear them as part of my outfit for the #teamnakamura 5k but I put them on the day before and I unfortunately could only keep them on for a few minutes before I had to take them off because they were too tight around my foot.  For recovery it would be fine, but I wouldn’t be able to run in them.

Flat Jenny, #teamnakamura, 5k

I think that the socks themselves feel great on and I was definitely able to feel the cooling effect and would definitely help me with recovery in the correct size.  The butterfly pattern is unique and super cute for you female runners out there.  They also have more masculine colors in the Allrounder Sock and the FXC Sock is in the basic black & white.

SLS3, Butterfly, Compression Socks, Teal

The newest item in the SLS3 line is a very cool HIPZIPP. It is a 5 inch wide belt with 2 large zippered pockets, large enough to fit even the iPhone 6+ and a small hidden pocket for a credit card or cash.  It’s made with compression fabric to keep it secure no matter that you are doing or where you place it.  They are doing a kickstarter campaign, where, depending on how soon you get in, you can get a HIPZIPP for up to half off the normal $29.95 price.  I got mine last week.  And you can check it out here for yourself:

REVIEW: Prana Meme Pants

Disclosure: I received a pair of PrAna Meme Pants to try & review as part of my association with FitApproach/SweatPink and their #liveinprana #7daystretch Instagram series.  All opinions are my own.

I work from home with the exception of a few days a month so I live in athletic gear.  I very rarely ever wear real clothes and haven’t bought anything outside of running gear, with the exception of wedding stuff, since I moved to SD in March.  So when I had a change to try a pair of PrAna’s new fall pants, I jumped at the chance.

Not only do they look like “real” clothes, they can also be used for traveling, hiking, climbing, walking so they fit my fitness requirement but also allow me to look a little more polished :).  And best part, they are wrinkle resistant! For all those of us who hate ironing, this is a huge plus.

I had the opportunity to pick from 3 different styles of pants, all part of PrAna’s fall 2015 line.   Sean & I went back and forth on the website trying to decide between the Halle Pant (available in lined & unlined) which is a more relaxed fit, slightly wider legged pant, the Monarch Convertible Pant, which can be worn as shorts or pants or the Meme Pant, a more fitted pant.  After going back and forth multiple times trying to pick, I decided that the Meme Pant was the style that most fit my aesthetic and style.

Immediately when I saw the style pant I was going to be reviewing, I thought that the Meme Pant would be perfect for when Sean & I go to Italy in the fall.  We are planning on hiking/running in the Dolomiti and everyone knows that Italians are very fashion forward so I thought that the Meme Pant would allow me to fit right in :).

Prana, Meme Pant, Zion, Fitapproach, #7daystretch, #liveinprana

These pants are made with a special stretch Zion fabric.

From the PrAna website…<<The Story Of Stretch Zion

It started with the idea to design the ultimate pant for climbers and outdoor adventurers—something rugged and durable, yet lightweight and flexible enough to move with you. But before we designed the pant, we needed the right material. At the time, stretch woven fabrics were hard to come by, so we worked with a fabric yarn supplier to create something new. After much trial and error, Stretch Zion was born.

Light, durable, and breathable, this unique stretch fabric is also wrinkle resistant, quick drying, and DWR coated to repel water and spills. It’s still a favorite among climbers and adventurers (just like its namesake, the Zion National Park). But really, Stretch Zion is great for anyone from travelers to weekend warriors, businessmen to trailblazers.>>

Now, I received my pants, right as SD was in the midst of it’s hottest week of the year and we have no air conditioning so it was a bit too warm for me to wear my pants for too long, but I did wear them to brunch on Sunday and they were super cute and comfortable.

The Meme Pant is a mid-rise pant with the traditional 5 pockets in front & back, a fitted leg and cargo pockets on the legs.  They have a 31in inseam (size 4), so they aren’t super long, but with the tapered fitted leg you won’t want the too long. I’m 5’8 and they hit me right at the ankle bone, which is perfect. They remind me of a legging and fit as such.

Prana, Meme Pant, Zion, Fitapproach, #7daystretch, #liveinprana

After looking at the sizing chart, I decided on a size 6, which fits pretty well.  There is a little room in the waist, but it’s very minimal and I don’t like to have my pants too tight on the belly so I’m happy with the fit.  Plus I’m not sure how, given all the not so clean food I’ve been eating, but I seem to have lost a few pounds so once I gain those lbs back I’m sure they will fit perfectly :).

There are 4 different colors to choose from, Black, Cargo Green, Deep Teal & Quartz.  That was a tough decision, I wavered between the Deep Teal and Quartz but ultimately choose the Quartz because it was a bit more versatile. And, it had a very cool diamond pattern on it.  And isn’t their packaging cute?

Prana, Fitapproach, #7daystretch, #liveinprana, #zion

I’m really looking forward to including these in my wardrobe for when it gets a bit cooler and I can’t wait to take them to the Italian Alps with me!

REVIEW: Plantronics Back Beat Fit Wireless Music

Disclosure: I received a pair of Plantronics BackBeat Fit wireless headphones as part of being a BibRave Pro.  Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!

I was super excited to try to these headphones because I’ve always just used the earbuds that come with my iPhone and have been wanting to try wireless headphones for a while now.

I opened the box, which I have to say was packaged very well.  Inside were the headphones, a neoprene armband that reverses so you can store your headphones inside and a USB charger.  I received the neon green version but they also have them in blue.

Plantronics, Back Beat Fit, Wireless Headphones, Bluetooth, bibrave, bibravepro

I immediately tried them on, hooked up the bluetooth to my iPhone (which is super easy to do) and then made a phone call.  After getting on the call I was like hold on, where is the microphone?  I’m still not exactly sure but the lady from American Airlines could hear me and that’s all that mattered :).

Plantronics, Back Beat Fit, Wireless Headphones, Bluetooth, bibrave, bibravepro

My first thought, as soon as I opened the box and put them on, was that these were going to be a tough fit for me and that I wouldn’t be able to wear them while running.  Why do I say that?  Well, while I like to listen to music while outside running, I have always only used one earbud so that I can hear cars, bikes, etc. while out there for safety reasons.

On the box it does say that the contoured eartip lets you hear your surroundings, however having been almost hit by a car in the past, I don’t feel comfortable using them on the road.  Although I have to say these would have been perfect for those times when I got a phone call in the middle of a run.  With the easy controls, I could keep running while talking instead of having to stop to pull my phone out of the case, etc. etc.

Now for running on the treadmill, listening to video workouts (quietly while Sean sleeps) and talking on the phone, I love them because I don’t have to worry about that safety aspect.

I did take them out for a spin while I was in Phoenix last week on a large trail with no cars 😉 and not a lot of people or bikes to watch out for and it was a great run.

#1 the headphones didn’t move around at all, there was no bouncing and I didn’t have to worry about them falling out of my ears like you do with earbuds.

#2 the armband stayed on my arm with no slipping and it felt pretty comfortable.  With the bright neon green it can been seen.

#3 even though my head was sweating alot, I didn’t notice any issues with the sound quality or slipping

The design is super flexible, and once in, you can’t really tell they are in, my only suggestion would be to have a different size for those of us with smaller heads :), I feel like the earbuds are just slightly too big for my ears and if I had a slightly smaller earbud they would fit perfectly.

My biggest use for my new earbuds…using them for phone calls.  I work from home and I only use my cell phone for phone calls and these are perfect for that.  All I have to do is hit the button on the right earbud, I hear bluetooth connected, where the battery level is at and then I can start my call.

And now for a little fun…what’s on my running playlist right now?  Here’s a small selection of what I’m listening too.

All in all, I’m very happy with my new Plantronics Back Beat Fit headphones.  I love using them for my phone calls and while I don’t want to wear them on the streets, they work great for listening to music while on the treadmill.

Review: Buff USA UV Half Buff

“Disclaimer: I received a UV Half Buff from Buff USA to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

I received the Stadi Fuschia UV Reflective half buff about a month ago and I’ve been using it non stop since.   If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me in it a lot lately.

I love it so much I even bought a second one when I was with Sean at the Tahoe Rim Trail 100 mile race in mid July.

What is a half buff? Well it can be used in a variety of different ways.

I’ve worn mine as a hair band, bandana, I’ve pulled it down to keep my ears warm, as a neckwarmer and more importantly as a way to keep my neck cool by putting ice water and ice inside it, and I’ve even worn it as an eye mask while crewing/sleeping in the car while Sean is running a 100 mile race.

Some of the ways I’ve worn my Buff USA half buffs.

They also show that you can wear it as a helmet liner, a hat liner, a headband and I’ve even seen people where them on their wrists to wipe away sweat.

From the Buff USA website:

Half the length of original UV BUFF® headwear, the UV Reflective Half BUFF® option offers efficient thermal properties, built-in sun protection, moisture management and reflective strips that are ideal for runners. Able to dry quickly and control odor, this sweat-wicking layer fits easily under a helmet. It’s a versatile, go anywhere piece wearable at least nine different ways.

  • Blocks 95% of UV rays*
  • Multifunctional – See Above for some of th ways I’ve worn mine
  • Exceptional Moisture-wicking with its 4-channel fibers
  • Soft, breathable Coolmax Extreme fabric – I wore mine around my neck at the AC100 finish last weekend in 90+ degree weather & didn’t get burnt or overheated & I didn’t wet it down
  • Cool in the summer, extra layer of warmth in the winter – see above I’ve worn mine in hot & cold conditions and been comfortable.
  • Polygiene Active Odor Control – I can attest to this, I’ve worn mine on my head while sweating profusely and have forgotten to wash it and not smelled anything on it. ?
  • Quick drying’ – but not too quick when you want to stay cool
  • 100% Seamless which means it doesn’t cause chafing

I don’t know why I wasn’t aware of what a buff was before this but it is my new favorite go-to while hiking, running, racing or just hanging out.

I love the size of the half buff, but they do have full sized buffs that can be used in a few more ways.  They have different materials including wool & Polartec® Microfleece™ as well as a lot of other products.  You can even get a buff for your dog!!

You don’t have to be a runner to use a half buff, they have special UV Insect Shield® BUFF® that will repel insects for up to 70 washes so if you fish, hunt or camp in places that have a lot of biting insects this will keep them at bay.

I can’t go thru all the amazing products that Buff USA has available, so I recommend you check it out at
