Spring 2019 Favorite Things

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some of my favorite things.  I’ve had the opportunity to try some new stuff lately and I wanted to share with you all.

1) The Altra Running Escalante Racers are my fav road shoes but I just got the new Kayentas and wow are they amazing.  I had the opportunity to try them out last December when I did a photo shoot with Altra and I thought they were amazing then, now that I’ve actually had the opportunity to run in them for real, they are a new fav.  They fit a little more snuggly with a sock like liner and they have a slightly stiffer mid sole from the Max LT vs the Altra EGO™ with InnerFlex™ in the racer.

2) Runderwear, not something we talk about often, but when I had the opportunity to test out a few of their products, I was actually really excited.  I have been wearing tights or tight shorts lately that don’t have the built in underwear & it’s so hard to find underwear that don’t move around when you run or spin.  I got to try 2 pairs of underwear & one of Runderwear’s Support Running Bras.  I loved the Anti VPL Low Rise Hipster, super comfy, never moved, I wore them when I ran from the finish line to mile 16 in the rain the morning of the Boston Marathon and never noticed them at all.

I put the Support Running Bra through it’s paces as well, I wore it all day on Friday including on the plane when we were red eying to Boston.  I barely noticed I had it on.  I also ran in it twice this past weekend, including Monday when it rained.  I notice that while it did not dry immediately, it didn’t take a long time to, especially after the first run which wasn’t in the rain.  I’ve probably mentioned it before but I hate the whole wet sports bra thing and I didn’t feel like that about this one.  I’m looking forward to testing it out on the trails soon.

3) After I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid, which you can read about here, I was a little, ok a lot, scared to run so I started going to Soul Cycle.  At first I did it because they had Warrior week & I wanted the Drunk Elephant kit, but it became a habit & now unless I am out of town, I go to class twice a week.  I love it, I sweat like crazy, I get a great workout and get to be around some amazing people.  Want to come too? You can sign up here.  San Diego now has two locations, one at UTC in La Jolla & another in Del Mar.

4) I got to try a few new things at Lululemon and I am in love with the Fast and Free Tight II 25in.  I wasn’t sure at first if I would like these, but OMG, they are amazing, they literally feel like a second skin.  I’ve worn them for spin & I ran in them before the Boston Marathon in the rain and they were so comfortable.

I’ve also been loving the Breeze by Muscle Crop.  I never really wore crops before but the Muscle Crop is nice & loose and long enough that it covers the part of my tummy I’m not in love with 😉 lol.

5) I was gifted a product that is very unique and I was skeptical at first but it’s now one of my favorite things.  The Fasciawear Patented Active Form-Support for Athletes is a unique body suit style outfit that I feel like is a full body compression suit, where I felt like cat woman, but I wore it for a few hours this morning and I instantly felt like I had better posture.

From the Fasciawear website: Fasciawear has built-in Power-Strips that stimulate the fascia network in the human body. The patented Active From-Support mechanism improves body awareness, body posture and guides proper hip-knee-ankle alignment during exercise.

6) The goodr x rabbit kit. What an awesome collab! I love the shorts & the tank with the rabbit & flamingo mesh, so cute! And in Boston we met the guy from goodr who helped create the kit with rabbit, such a small world.  This is a limited edition collab so if you are interested, you want to get a set ASAP.

I haven’t always been the most adventurous when it comes to trying new things and new products but I am really happy I stepped outside the box to try these things.

What’s something new that you have tried recently?

Rabbit Conejo Review & Instagram Giveaway

Happy New Year, friends!!  Here’s to a fabulous 2017!

To kick off the year, I’m reviewing the new Conejo crop pant from my friends at Rabbit!

A few weeks ago, I reviewed the sleevie wonder, Rabbit’s super soft long sleeve shirt.  Which I liked so much I’ve already gotten a second one.

This time I’m talking about the Conejo, Rabbit’s long awaited crop pant.  Rabbit is a Santa Barbara based company founded by 2 amazing women & runners, Monica & Jill. Rabbit gear is manufactured in Los Angeles, CA.

From the Rabbit website:

Crops are pretty great as-is, so we didn’t really reinvent the wheel here.  But, we did make a perfect fitting, moisture wicking, flattering, uber comfortable, and cute as can be crop that you will love. The conejos are made from material that’s the perfect weight, so they’re great for almost any running or lounging scenario.

– Magical combination of 87% poly/ 13% spandex
– Medium weight fabric (370gm) to wick away moisture
– Rear zip pocket located in mid-back of waistband
– Dual front internal pockets
– Crop; designed to hit at the calf
– Four way stretch for maximum comfort – rabbitMESH knee venting
– Reflective rabbit logo detail
– Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, don’t bleach, mmkay?
– Made in California, USA

I got the all black pair so I could match them with anything, but the Conejos come in several color combos. Black & Cabaret (Hot Pink), Black & Charcoal Heather (grey) and Dress Blues Heather & Black.

The all black has rabbit mesh on the waist band and the knee venting. The Conejos have a decent sized zippered back pocket and 2 front pockets. There’s even a reflective little rabbit logo on the right leg. I love these little details.

It doesn’t get horribly cold down here in San Diego so I don’t need to wear crops very often, but the Conejos are super comfortable, you barely feel like you are wearing anything at all.  They are super lightweight, but can also keep you warm.  I wore them in the snow & 30 degree temps last week and didn’t feel cold at all.

I got the size medium and for the most part they fit perfectly.  I feel like I might be in between a small & a medium because the legs fit absolutely perfectly and when walking around the waist fits great.  When I run, I do on occasion have to pull at the waist.  After I washed them, it seemed to be a little better, but the only downsize to the Conejos is that there isn’t a drawstring at the waist to prevent this.

All in all, this isn’t a huge deterrent because they are so comfortable and the fact that they kept me warm in the snow was such a plus.

Review + Instagram Giveaway: Rabbit Sleevie Wonder

If you’ve been following Sean @ultrarunnersd on Instagram or have seen any of our running photos together for the last 6-9 months, you’ve probably seen him running in Rabbit shorts.  He loves their Daisy Dukes ;).

So when the nice folks at Rabbit contacted me to test out and review some of their new fall line and do a giveaway I was super excited for a few reasons.

#1 – Sean loves the brand and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, lol

#2 – It’s California company, based out of Santa Barbara, I even saw one of the founders, Monica, out on a run when I was crewing for Sean at the SB100 in July. And not only that, the clothes are made in Los Angeles, which allows them to keep a close eye on the production of their products.

#3 – Their clothes are really cute, I mean come on, that little rabbit logo is too cute.

They sent me 2 pieces from their new fall line.  I’m going to review the Sleevie Wonder today and I’ll be reviewing the other piece in a few weeks.

What is the Sleevie Wonder?  Well it’s a long sleeve shirt that comes in 2 different material options.  1) All “rabbit mesh” or 2) a combo “rabbit mesh” & heather.   It’s got a thumb hole and it’s lightweight, so so soft and it’s a slightly looser fit.

I got a size medium, I’m a 6/8 in other brands depending on the fit, but I have long arms and hate tight necklines so I typically go up slightly to accommodate.  The medium fits me perfectly, the arms are just a tad short with the thumb hole used but not bad.  And the neckline is slightly lower than a normal crew-neck which suits me perfectly!

I found it to work well in the upper 40/low 50 degree temps that we’ve had here recently in San Diego.  It’s not too heavy but it’s not super light either.  Kind of like Goldilocks, it was just right :).

I picked the combo Rabbit Mesh & Heather sleevie and OMG, the heathered portion of the shirt is so so soft.  It feels amazing on, I seriously just want to wear it all the time.  The rabbit mesh arm is so cute with lots of little rabbits all over the arm.  I found the mesh arm to be a little thinner than the heather arm which was a nice contrast.  It allowed a little more airflow which kept me cool when I heated up.

There are 4 different colors for the sleevie wonder, 2 each for the different styles.  I picked the deep blue heather color, it’s kind of a dark purple and since purple is one of my fav colors, I figured this would be a better fit for me than the black heather.  There are also 2 different colors in the all rabbit mesh, a hot pink called cabaret & navy blue called dress blues.

It’s not super cold here in San Diego yet, but last week we had a little cool spell and I couldn’t wait to try my new Rabbit gear out.  The sleevie felt great on, like I said before it is super soft and it wicked sweat nicely. One of the nice things about Rabbit is that their gear dries really quickly.  I wish they would come out with a fast drying sports bra, because post run, wet sports bras are the worst!

I didn’t have any issues with my sleevie riding up or moving around, in fact I barely felt like it was on.  I did wear a tank under it the first time I wore it and I also tried it a second time with only a sports bra underneath and it fit great either way. I foresee this being a great addition to my cool SD weather arsenal.
