Last summer I got my first buff, a UV Half Buff.  I’ve also had the change to try the Original Full Buff and now the Full UV Buff.

What is the difference between the original and the UV version?

From the Buff USA website: UV BUFF® headwear keeps the sun fun while blocking 95% of harmful UV rays*. Hour after hour, COOLMAX® Extreme fabric wicks away sweat to keep you cool and Polygiene® Active Odor Control neautralizes odor.

The biggest differences are that the UV Buff is made with the COOLMAX® Extreme fabric and blocks UV rays. I found that the UV Buff was a lighter fabric that the Original which feels a lot softer and better on the skin than the Original as well.

There are a lot of ways to wear the UV Buff but my favorite ways are around the neck and on my wrist.  It’s been really hot here in San Diego so my Buff has been coming in very handy.

The UV Buff comes in a lot of different colors and patterns, there’s something for everyone.  I picked the Mosaic pattern which has a lot of different colors in it so I can always be #runmatchy™ :).

REVIEW: Amazing Grass Protein Superfood & Giveaway

I received a container of Amazing Grass Protein Superfood through my association with FitApproach.  All opinions are my own.

I’ve been talking about my search for a good and tasty protein powder for a while now.  I tried Vitamin Pit Stop’s USANA Nutrimeal earlier this year and it was ok, but left a thick aftertaste.

So when my friends at FitApproach gave me the chance to try Amazing Grass Protein Superfood, I was intrigued.  I’ve tried some other Amazing Grass products and enjoyed them so I thought this might be a great fit.

So what’s different about Amazing Grass Protein Superfood?  First off it’s called Super Food!

From the website: It is an all in one nutritional shake including:
20 grams of Complete Plant Protein from organic hemp, organic chia, organic quinoa & organic pea proteins.
7 alkalizing greens including organic grasses, organic acai, goji, organic pineapple, organic sweet potato & more.
2 servings of fruits & vegetables

That’s a lot of stuff in one scoop.  And to top it off Amazing Grass Protein Superfood is certified USDA Organic, Vegan, Kosher, GMO & Gluten Free with no added sugar.

Protein Superfood promotes lean muscle, satisfies hunger & aids digestion.

Protein Superfood comes in 3 flavors, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Pure Vanilla & The Original.  I picked Chocolate Peanut Butter because I wanted to try something different.

I will say if I would like to try the Pure Vanilla & The Original because I think would be able to be used in a lot more flavor combinations.

As with the other protein powder I tried, the first thing I did was mix one scoop with 12 oz of water (as shown on the container) add a little ice in the blender and try it out.  I’ll admit it was a little light on flavor probably because I added in too much ice, but the flavor was yummy.  The kitties all wanted to try it too, but Protein Superfood is only for people, not little kitties ;).

Next I tested it by mixing it with some steel cut oats and created a peanut butter apple oatmeal as part of my breakfast and it was super yum.

And then I made a chocolate peanut butter smoothie, which I really enjoyed.

1/2 c Silk chocolate soymilk
1/2 c Silk soymilk
1 scoop Protein Superfood
2 Tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
Handful of ice cubes

You can find recipes for each type of Protein Superfood online including Maple Blueberry featuring Pure Vanilla, Green Island Groove with The Original and Chocolate PB&J.

I’ve been really picky with choosing a protein powder for my smoothies and I really like that Amazing Grass is all organic and plant based as I don’t drink cows milk any longer and try to stay away from dairy as much as I can.

REVIEW: AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Wireless Headphones

Disclaimer: I received a pair of AfterShokz Trekz Titanium wireless headphones to review  as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

My friends at BibRave gave me the opportunity to test out the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium headphones the last 6 weeks.  Now with all the wireless headphone options out there, what makes the Trekz Titanium unique?

AfterShokz, Trekz Titanium, wireless headphones, bibrave, bibchat

From their website:

  • Bone conduction technology delivers music through your cheekbones, ensuring ears remain completely open to hear ambient sounds
  • Titanium wraparound headband is lightweight and flexible for durability and portability
  • OpenFit™ design ensures maximum situational awareness and comfort during long-term wear
  • PremiumPitch+™ guarantees a premium audio experience, including wide dynamic range and rich bass
  • Wireless Bluetooth® 4.1 connectivity and convenient multipoint pairing
  • LeakSlayer™ technology significantly reduces natural sound leakage
  • IP55 certified to repel sweat, dust and moisture, from workouts to wicked weather
  • Enjoy six hours of continuous music + calls on a single charge
  • EQ presets boost bass and reduce vibration on the go
  • Dual noise canceling microphones exclude surrounding noise, effectively enhancing speech
  • Audrey Says™ voice prompts guide users through power, pair, play and talk
  • Hassle-free 2-year warranty

So what does that all mean to me? The most important thing to me is that it means that you can wear wireless headphones without having to worry about not hearing cars, animals, other runners, etc. If you read my review on the Plantronics Back Beat Fit headphones from last year, that was my biggest complaint with them because I really want to be able to hear if a car is coming for safety reasons.

When you open the box, there is a nice case, the headphones and then a packet with the instructions, a USB charging cable, little rubber things and a set of ear plugs.

I immediately took them out of the box and put them on only to get a not so nice surprise when I put them on and the top of my ears hurt immediately.  The hard plastic was hitting that part of my ear and I was like uh oh. But I opened the instructions and saw that the 2 little rubber pieces were there to help keep the headphones off the ears.

Once I put the rubber pieces on then they felt a lot better on.  Basically the rubber pieces stick to your hair/hat etc. to keep the headphones up and off your ears.

So how is the sound quality since they aren’t in your ears?  It was surprisingly good.  The headphones sit on the bone in front of the ear.  They use bone conduction technology to deliver the music.

I wore them for the Hot Chocolate 15k back in March and I have to say that I was impressed at how good the sound quality was.  I will say though that if you are in an area with a lot of noise they don’t work well.

AfterShokz, Trekz Titanium, wireless headphones, bibrave, bibchat

That being said, in keeping with my honesty policy, there are a few things that I don’t like about the Trekz Titanium.

1) I think that the headband is not very flexible, it’s not easy to fit into a pack for long runs/races.  I think these would be perfect with a more flexible headband for storage because really, I can’t fit the headphones in the case in my Orange Mud Pack and would I take the case with me on a run? No, and I don’t always want to wear them the whole time so a more flexible band would be nice.

2) I had a hard time with them fitting well when I was wearing a hat and sunglasses.  They fit perfectly with neither of those and with just a hat but with both, I couldn’t get them to hit my cheekbones.

AfterShokz, Trekz Titanium, wireless headphones, bibrave, bibchat

All in all I think that these unique headphones are great and for those of us who want to be able to hear cars, people and anything around us but also listen to music with a wireless headphone the Trekz Titanium are amazing!
