#StayHome What we are eating these days

There are some affiliate links in this post, which means that if you click & buy I might get a little something from them.

It’s been a crazy last 2 months. Sean & I ran the LA Marathon back on March 8. We got home and then the Global COVID 19 pandemic got real pretty quick. As I was scrolling FaceBook, getting NY Times news alerts, etc. things were quickly escalating and my anxiety was through the roof.

We did a few quick trips to the store & I got my car smog tested on Mar 14 and we have not left the house since. We’ve literally done all of our runs, meals, everything at home.

We haven’t gone to the grocery store or really done anything since Mar 14 so we’ve relied on the amazing delivery people who are out there. I wanted to share some of the food services that we have been using, tried, etc. in case anyone else is interested.

And as you might know if you follow me online, I’m a huge foodie & that doesn’t change when I’m quarantined at home.

So you might know from following me that we are vegan so all of the things I’m going to mention below are vegan.

I’ve been a follower of a company called Hungryroot for quite a while now & just never had the opportunity to try them out with all the travel that we do. So the first week we were home I gave it a try. I put in my requirements, a few lunches/dinners & the occasional breakfast.

Hungryroot picks a menu for you and then you can customize based on your likes/dislikes. Based on the plan that you select you are given credits & then you choose meals &/or grocery items that add up to the number of credits you have.

There are a ton of meals to choose from, from sandwiches, tacos, grain bowls, pastas & more. Everything in my selection is vegan but they do have some vegetarian options, I know this because we accidentally got some egg product by mistake one week.

Everything can be made in about 10-15 minutes and you get fresh veggies, rices/grains & protein (either tofu, beans or beyond products like the brats or burgers) along with a sauce to go with it. They give you recipes that are super easy to follow and I am really enjoying the meals. I have been eating more and more healthy since we started getting Hungryroot.

If you’d like to give it a try use code 25OFF2JENNY to get $25 off your first 2 orders (a total of $50 off).

Next up, we got the opportunity to try a weeks worth of meals from Territory Foods.

Territory Foods are ready made meals that are made in local restaurants using sustainably-sourced real ingredients. They have a variety of different menus so depending on what kind of diet you follow. Choices include Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, Keto Reset, Mixitarian, Whole 30, Low fat, low carb & Mediterranean.

I selected 4 different options for Sean & I to try. We had a few meals from Cafe Gratitude which is a plant based restaurant that has a location near us in downtown San Diego.

Territory can send meals twice a week and they recently started selling a one time delivery Grocery Box that has tons of fresh produce in it. I’m really excited to try this since fresh fruit & veggies are one thing I miss from not going to the store.

If you would like to try out Territory Foods, you can use my code RUNNYLEGS to save $25 off your first 2 orders so again a total of $50 off.

Next up, we ordered from Postmates a few times here in San Diego. I got pints of vegan ice cream from Stella Jean’s ice cream one week.

Another week we got Popcorn Chick’n (fried cauliflower bites) & vegan Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches from another of our fav San Diego restaurant Grains.

Another time we had a super yummy & huge pizza from Urbn Pizza.

I ordered from Plant Power Fast Food to get a little fry action!

A few weeks ago, I discovered that Tender Greens, a restaurant that we actually hadn’t been to in a while because while healthy, they don’t have a ton of vegan options, was selling grocery boxes! I’ve ordered boxes of fruit & veggies from them, along with loafs of sour dough bread & flour.

You can order directly from their app or website and have the boxes delivered right to your door.

Other fun things I’ve ordered. Cookies from Maya’s Cookies here in San Diego.

Vegan Peanut Butter cups that taste just like reese’s from HeroCup.

Grocery supplies including vegan marshmallows & chocolate chips from Thrive Market.

Last week we got Acai Bowls from Everbowl, another local chain in San Diego. They are selling later bowls, which are frozen bases (they have 4 different options to choose from) along with granola & then you can add on goji berries, hemp seeds, shredded coconut, chia seeds & cocao nibs. They sell them in either a 7 pack or 15 pack box & you can pick your flavors. They have also just started shipping overnight in the continental US and have local delivery (free with orders over $50) in San Diego County on Tuesday’s & Friday’s.

I tried to get ice cream from Van Leeuwen but they use a service called Goldbelly and it was a total mess. Apparently they ran out of 75% of the ice cream flavors and I was given a choice between 3-5 flavors that I wasn’t really interested in or a refund. Mail order ice cream is expensive so I took the refund because I didn’t really want to spend that much on something I didn’t really want.  I am giving Van Leeuwen another shot when they opened up shipping through them directly vs going through Gold Belly.

We also treated ourselves to box of yummy vegan pastries from a company called a bakery called Split Bakehouse here in San Diego. I’m was so excited for bagels, croissants, pop tarts & some other fun treats. Their delivery area includes all of San Diego, North to Oceanside, east to El Cajon & South to Chula Vista.

Are you ordering more food online during this stay at home time? What are some fun things you’ve gotten?

#GoodEats New to me Plant Based Options

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of Conagra Brands. As always all opinions are my own.

I’ve been following a plant based/vegan diet for the last 18 months.  While I have started cooking a bit more, with all the travel we do & the summer heat (we don’t have air conditioning in our house) I tend to look for more frozen &/or super easy to make options.

That’s why I was really excited to collaborate with BabbleBoxx & Conagra Food.  They gifted me a box of “Good Eats” to test out a few new plant based products from 3 different Conagra Brands.

I know this post is about food, but even the packaging of the product I got was pretty neat.  Normally products coming in blah brown boxes, but this one was pretty cool to see on my doorstep.

Inside was a bag of Birds Eye OvenRoasters, Sheet Pan Vegatables, Gardein Nashville Hot Chick’n Tenders & a Healthy Choice Vegan & Vegetarian Power Bowl with Falafel & Tahini.  They shipped in dry ice & were in perfect condition when I got them.

There were a few additional treats like some cloth napkins, a serving platter & a little sauce container.

First thing I tried was the Healthy Choice bowl.  It was really easy to make, I just popped it in the microwave.  Healthy Choice makes 4 different Vegan & Vegetarian Power Bowls including this one with the crispy falafel & a tahini sauce.

Next up was a combo of the Birds Eye OvenRoasters sheet pan veggies.  This is a combo of pre-cut broccoli & cauliflower that is preseasoned & so easy to make.  You literally put it on a sheet pan and then cook for 25 minutes.  So easy & so good.

I saved the best for last with the Gardein Nashville Hot Chick’n Tenders.  Gardein has been a staple in my freezer for a while now & I love Nashville Hot Chick’n so I was really excited to see these in my box.  Gardein has a proprietary pea + wheat protein that they use.  There products are always vegan, non-GMO, dairy free & kosher.

I really liked these tenders, they were probably my favorite product in my Good Eats box.

It’s pretty exciting to see plant based products becoming more and more prominent.  And yes, I know just eating vegetables is easy, but it’s not always easy to get enough protein &/or fiber by just eating veggies so I’m always on the lookout for good tasting products that I can make quickly.
